Brandon Bass celebrates his shooting contest victory over Dirk Nowitzki. It is a post game day shoot around routine that they have a jump shot contest from five spots around the perimeter. Brandon’s celebration is obviously his attempt to imitate Dirk’s on court…

When Mark Cuban noticed New Orleans-based photographer Gus Escanelle snapping shots of him before the Mavericks game in NOLA Thursday night I guess he decided to mess with him, or he just ate a extremely sour lemon, or maybe he was playing Pictionary and the clue was Jerry…

You wouldn’t really call it a cheat sheet or even a crib note. Semantically, that doesn’t sit well with many people these days. It’s more like an internet playbook for all the places on the web that are dedicated to covering the Dallas Mavericks. The following information actually wouldn’t be enough to fill a three-ring binder. Naturally, your friends would think you were weird if you taped it to your wrist like a football quarterback. So maybe…

Last week I told you about the ManiAACs stoping by the studio for a poster photoshoot.
Remember I posted the photo of Bam jumping into the air? If you didn't see it...scroll down my blog entries.
If you would like to see more outtakes from that shoot you can check my photos later this afternoon. I am posting 80 or so green screen photos from those two days of shooting. A lot of them are probably already posted. It might…

Dear Mister NBA Powers-That-Be,
Can you please invite Mavericks player Gerald Green to be in the NBA Slam Dunk contest next year in Dallas?
Pretty Please. Pretty please, cherry-on-top?
Top Five reasons you should invite him:
1. He plays in Dallas. You can save on airfare for one of the contestants.
2. He has two extra bedrooms at his place for other contestants who may need a place to sleep…

One fall day 9 years ago the Dallas Mavericks held a "TeamUp" day to renovate an old house. The players converted the old house into a community center. This picture was taken with a Sony Mavica digital camera. The camera recorded the image to a 3.5 floppy disk. Remember those days?
Pictured from left to right in the photograph Courtney Alexander, Coach Rolando Blackman, Greg Buckner, Coach Don Nelson, Evan Eschmeyer, Etan Thomas,…

Your grandfather is a pretty famous basketball coach in your home state. Did you have any choice but to become a basketball player?
Yes, he was a basketball player too but he was mostly known as a basketball coach. He coached basketball for 51 years at North Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. But the answer to the question is yes, and no. I had a choice, but it was one of those things that when you grow up in and…

Don Nelson sits in the coaches office at the American Airlines Center during NBA draft night 2003. Although the picture only shows "Nellie" the entire office is full of coaches, scouts, and even player Marquis Daniels. Everyone is glued to the television coverage of the live draft.
More interesting, is the framed photograph of Nelson going up for a lay-up during his days as a Boston Celtic. As a player Don Nelson Nelson played for the…

Tiger Woods sat courtside at the Magic versus Mavericks game in Orlando on Monday night.
Before the game Mark Cuban and Woods met for the first time at Tiger's courtside seats.
The cordial pre-game chat revolved mostly around their mutual friend Michael Jordan.
After the chat, pre-game optimism/hope/doubt of both men made way to the clarity of Cuban's Mavericks throttling Tiger's Magic.
No word on…

The Dallas Mavericks had their usual game day shoot around this morning at 11:00 am.
Today is the first time that I had returned to the scene of the spring 2006 crime. I didn’t travel with the team last season to Miami.
Today, was the first time that I was forced to remember the many snippets of the ESPN Sportcenter located on my mental DVR. The mental imagery of the unimaginable comeback of the Miami Heat over the Dallas…

You scored on a dunk on the first possession that you played for the Dallas Mavericks. Were you surprised that they called a play for you on your first possession right off the bench?
Yeah, the first play was Jet dropping it to me and I just dunked it. When I got the ball I was wide open, so I just hammered it down. The call was a high pick-and-roll. It was just a read really. It was right when I got into the game. It surprised me…
